General Information
Puerto Escondido is the oldest tourist center in the region, formerly known as Punta Escondida. It was a fishermen village with a jetty for the shipment of coffee from nearby places, which allowed for a significant commercial activity.
Its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere gradually turned it into a preferred place for tourists. Years later it achieved international fame for being one of the few places in Latin America to practice professional surfing due to the heavy swell in several of its beaches. Likewise there is abundant wild and marine fauna: armadillos, migratory birds, crocodiles, iguanas, and sea turtles, in addition to the numerous species of fish that can be appreciated in their natural habitat, since the locals have a commitment to preserve the ecosystem and maintain it as an ecological reserve.
Its climate is warm and sub humid, with summer rainfall and an average annual temperature of 82 F (28 C).

Localization of Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido is located on the coast of the State of Oaxaca, 500 miles (800 Km) south of Mexico City and 194 miles from the city of Oaxaca, through the town of Pochutla. The locality is mainly connected by Federal Highway 200 that runs along the coast from Pinotepa Nacional to Puerto Salina Cruz and the State Highway linking Oaxaca-Sola de Vega-Puerto Escondido, on a 160 miles (260 Km) route.
By air, it is only 1 hour away from Mexico City and 35 minutes away from the city of Oaxaca, arriving to its international airport.
By land, from Oaxaca by Highway 175, 200 miles (324 Km) through the town of Pochutla and 160 miles (260 Km) through the town of Sola de Vega. It can also be reached by Highway 200 from Acapulco, after a 250 miles (400 Km) drive.
Public transportation companies such as Omnibus Cristobel Colón (OCC), Estrella Blanca and Estrella Del Valle offer runs from Mexico City and the city of Oaxaca, in several daily departures and affordable rates for your comfort.
